Rectangular Altar Cloth: Organic Hemp Silk Shibori
Tenkozan: Made on the Mountain collection from the Monastery Stitchery and Dye Studio.
To show honor and respect, customarily, a beautiful textile is placed under statues, ritual objects, instruments or sacred texts. Altar cloths represent the sacred area of protection during liturgy and can also simply protect the surface of your altar table.
These altar cloths are made with organic fabric dyed with the natural plant dyes we grow in the Monastery Dye Garden and produce at the Monastery Dye Studio. Shibori is a traditional Japanese manual resist dying technique of tying, sewing or folding and clamping which produces a number of different patterns on fabric. Each cloth will differ ever so slightly from the photograph, as the patterns are hand produced one by one, and the quality of natural dyes give these fabrics the imprint of the live process of dying. As such, these items are produced in limited editions. Our practice and attention is what we infuse into every object we carefully construct in the Monastery Stitchery, as it comes to your home or altar.
Organic Hemp Silk with Marigold Shibori design. Altar Cloth is 15"x29" and is lined with a backing of organic white linen.
