I have this in addition to my regular mountain seat. I use it to sit a bit higher than half-lotus, like Burmese pose, which I often use when doing mala / mantra meditations. Great second zafu to have to mix it up for a long afternoon of sitting.
I am 5'3" tall and bought this because I was led to believe it would allow one with hip issues to sit comfortably in meditation. It was not comfortable at all. Painful still.
I'm very pleased with my new cushion. It provides the support I was looking for. I facilitate a meditation circle and am always looking for ways for new meditators find comfort and support in sitting posture.
This cushion artfully combines firm foam (below) and memory foam (above). It delays but does not delete the hip/knee/lower back pains that can limit mobility. By adding a little lower back support and a pillow under the left knee I was able to sustain practice without injury, so far. So now I alternate between floor sitting, chair sitting and t'ai chi or walking. One suggestion: offer a cushion that 2" thicker for those who want a little more loft.
This pillow provides good lateral support and the height is excellent for a relaxed lotus position. Sitting forward of the center spot creates an excellent point for balance.
I am 56 and beginning to have arthritis, but still wish to sit on floor with cushion for meditation. I used the mountain seat at the meditation center I attend and bought one. It makes it possible for me to sit for long lengths of time without much pain. Thank you Monastery Store for making this available at a reasonable price!
I have very long legs, am overweight and tend to sciatica. Using this Tibetan Mountain Seat at home I have no problems. When I used the non-memory foam Tibetan Mountain Seat at the meditation center, my right leg fell asleep within 30 minutes. We are having a weeklong retreat so I decided to get a new cushion to leave at center. My old one is maybe 10 years old and just fine so multiple meditation venues is the only reason I need a second one. This is a great cushion for me.
