Dogen's short teaching, Shobogenzo Genjokoan, written for a lay practitioner and the fascicle that opens the collection of his teachings, the Shobogenzo, or Treasury of the True Dharma Eye, is a powerful but subtle teaching on practice and enlightenment. It's wholly appropriate, then, that this translation of the commentary by Yasutani Roshi, a major figure in bringing Zen to the West, was one of the first available to English speaking audiences.
