Maitreya is the future Buddha, presently a bodhisattva residing in the Tushita heaven, who will come to preach the Dharma anew when the the teachings of Gautama Buddha has completely decayed. Maitreya is frequently depicted as seated in a Western/European fashion, or with the ankles loosely crossed.
This statue is ivory color, with an antiqued coating that will deepen with exposure to direct sunlight. Made by a family of sculptors in Oregon, the statues are filled with a mixture of resin and natural Oregon Limestone.
Statue is one sided, the back is flat.
