Maitreya is the future Buddha, presently a bodhisattva residing in the Tushita heaven, who will come to preach the Dharma anew when the teachings of Gautama Buddha have completely decayed. Maitreya is frequently depicted as seated in a Western/European fashion, or with the ankles loosely crossed.
This statue is ivory color, with an antiqued coating that will deepen with exposure to direct sunlight. Made by a family of sculptors in Oregon, the statues are filled with a mixture of resin and natural Oregon limestone.
Statue is one sided, the back is flat.
