Collection: Monastery Apiary
The Monastery Apiary is the place where bees are kept by beekeeper and formal Zen student, Sansho. The bees we support here at Zen Mountain Monastery provide us with honey for various culinary delights for the residents and guests, and we also sell it in the on site store. The honey is seasonally harvested in the spring and summer. As part of the honey extraction process, the wax cappings that the bees produced to cap the honeycomb cells are removed. The wax cappings are rendered and purifed to make a beautiful naturally golden wax that retains the fragrance of our delicious honey.
